People overthink this. Fitment does not depend on your trim level, your cab configuration, your transmission, or whether you have the towing package.

What it comes down to is this: did your engine leave the factory with cylinder deactivation?

If yes, there's a command to block and the module has a job to do. If no, there's nothing to disable and you don't need the product.

Cylinder deactivation shuts down some of your cylinders under light load to save fuel. GM has shipped two versions:

  • AFM (Active Fuel Management). Switches between all cylinders and half your cylinders in a fixed pattern.
  • DFM (Dynamic Fuel Management). Arrived on 2019 trucks. Far more aggressive, running up to 17 different firing patterns and deactivating cylinders in changing combinations.

One caveat worth stating plainly: on the newest vehicles, GM changed the underlying electrical architecture, and OBD-II devices in this category do not all carry over cleanly across that change. Run your year through the fitment checker rather than assuming a newer truck is automatically covered.

Coverage within each nameplate depends on the engine and model year, not the badge. A Silverado with the 5.3L V8 has cylinder deactivation. The same year Silverado with a different engine may not. The three engines that account for most of this

The 5.3L V8

The engine in the majority of half-ton GM trucks and full-size SUVs, and the single most common engine among AFM disabler buyers. Found across Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Avalanche and Escalade. Ran AFM through the L83 generation, then switched to DFM with the L84 in 2019.

The 6.2L V8

The high-output option in Silverado High Country, Sierra Denali, Escalade, Tahoe and Yukon. Ran AFM as the L86, then DFM as the L87 from 2019.

The 4.3L V6

This one surprises people. Cylinder deactivation is not a V8-only feature. The 4.3L EcoTec3 V6 in base and work-truck Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 models runs AFM too, deactivating two cylinders to run as a V4.

If you deliberately bought the simpler engine to avoid complexity, you may still have this system running. GM dropped the 4.3L from the 1500 trucks for the 2022 model year, so this applies to earlier trucks.

How to check your vehicle in under a minute

1. Use the fitment tool. Make, model, year. It's on the product page and checks the full database in a few seconds. This is the definitive answer.

2. Check your RPO codes. Open your glovebox. Most GM vehicles have a sticker listing three-character Regular Production Option codes. Engine codes L83, L84, L86, L87, LV3, LC9, LMG and LH6 all indicate cylinder deactivation. If the sticker is gone, any dealer or shop can pull it from your VIN.

3. Feel for it while driving. On flat highway at steady cruise, roughly 40 to 55 mph, light throttle. That's the window where the system engages. Many owners notice a faint shudder through the seat at that moment. Some vehicles show it directly on the driver information center as a "V4" indicator or an active-cylinder count.

Worth knowing: plenty of vehicles cycle constantly without the driver ever feeling a thing. Not noticing it doesn't mean it isn't happening. Common fitment questions

Does trim level matter?

No. LT, LTZ, High Country, Denali, Z71, work truck. None of it affects fitment. Only the engine matters.

Does 2WD versus 4WD matter?

No.

I have a Duramax diesel. Does this apply?

No. GM's Duramax diesel engines do not use cylinder deactivation. Diesels manage fuel delivery differently and gain nothing from the approach. If you have a diesel, you don't have this problem.

My truck is a 2500 or 3500 heavy duty. Does it fit?

Generally no. The 6.0L V8 used across much of the HD line never had cylinder deactivation, and the 6.6L gas V8 that replaced it shipped without AFM or DFM. Most HD buyers also take the diesel. Run your specific vehicle through the checker rather than assuming either way.

I already had my lifters replaced. Should I still use this?

Worth being straight about. FullForce does not repair or reverse damage that already exists inside an engine. What it does is stop the cylinder cycling going forward.

So if you've just had a lifter job done, you have fresh components in there, and stopping the cycling is exactly the point. You're protecting new parts. If your engine is currently ticking and you have not had it repaired, a plug-in module is not the fix. You need a mechanic's diagnosis first.

Does one unit work on multiple vehicles?

Yes. It's a plug-in module, not a permanent modification, and it isn't VIN-locked. Unplug it from one covered vehicle and plug it into another.

Will it work on a vehicle that already has an aftermarket tune?

If your ECU has been reflashed with a tune that already deletes AFM, the command is already gone and there's nothing left to block. If your tune is a performance tune that left AFM active, the module still applies.
